- Include a working draft of your professional story (1-2 paragraphs) as a gist in your PD deliverables due Monday of Week 6
Write: Reflect on your experience entering your new career in the software industry and write a draft of your story, answering the questions who are you, why are you here, what's next? Think about how others might root for you as a character and what's at stake for you in your career transition. Consider:
-
tie together math/finance and music
-
passion stemming from first coding courses
-
talk a little about team building on music / working with others
-
outlook - building sass apps / learning from senior devs
-
Your Strengths: what makes you the "hero" of this story? Moving from studying one field into working in a completely different field, and then combining both of those skills in another completely new field
- From StrengthsFinder, reflect on how developing your strengths at Turing has influenced your story
-
How have you grown at Turing? What obstacles have you overcome? Being able to help people and make the people around me thrive, without coming off as some type of know it all
-
What turning points led you to make this career change? I knew I wanted to learn something new and decided to try programming on my own. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. After doing a lot of self study work and enjoying the struggles and the victories, I knew I wanted to continue on this path and make this my full time career. It was super engaging for me to combine my love for creating something from nothing and thinking creatively about different ways to do something, along with my analytical and more math oriented skills.
-
What does your third act look like? How does transitioning to this career bring some closure to this narrative arc? I think my third act look like
-
Describe causality -- what made you want to make this career change? How is it grounded in your character?
-
How you can create trust with the listener
-
Creating coherence in your story
-
Utilize a story form
-
Tell multiple stories -- how can you adapt your story to different situations?
