Please describe the current vision you have for your career. What are the values that will drive your job search? What are your goals for your job search? What kind of role do you see yourself pursuing in your job search?
I have filted around from job to job for the whole of my professional life. I am looking to change this by finding a secure and rewarding job that I can make into my career. I would love to find a place that in inclusive, inovated, creative, challenging and overall a job to be a part of. My goals for begining down this path is doing more research on what is out there in terms of companies and industries and begning the process of putting myself out there to be seen where I want to be. I am 'go-getter' when it comes to making socail connections and am looking forward to bringing this to the table when pursuing my job search.
Based on what you wrote above, please write a refined summary statement for your professional story:
I have experienced many jobs during the whole of my professional life, however, have yet to find my true calling within any of them. It wan't until I was introduced to Front End Engineering that I truly had everything click into place; that this is what I meant to do and be. I thrive when constantly challenged, especially when it comes to creating, helping those around me, and solving problems. This enviornment of perpetual learning and innovating that is incompassed in web develeopment world as a whole, brings in every aspect of myself in a truly special way. I am here to learn, create, help, solve and finally be exactly what I was meant to be. A Front End Engineer!
As sateted above, I am looking forward to diving deeper into what industries and companies there out there and which will be the perfect fir for me. I would love working within a company that was focused on music/ the music industry, the fashion or art world (Anything with a creative twist), helping people/ innovating the world around us, and or machine learning.
Why did you pick the industries/companies that you listed above? How do they relate to the values and goals you have for yourself in your job search?
I have always been drawn to jobs that are oriented around customer service or helping people. I love being there for someone and to do this on a large scale would be simply amazing. I also love cultivating my creative self, especially through muic, and know a carrer that would allow this continue would help me flurish beyond my expectations.
How does your LinkedIn currently reflect your goals and industry interests? What changes will you need to make to your LinkedIn to better reflect these?
It does not do this very well at thi point... I need to re-vist it and do a major revamp to better direct to my current path and direction as a web developer. This means setting up a much better intro and starting to reachout to the devs I know as well as my clasmates as a start.
How can you capitalize on the outreach and networking plan you made this module to create new contacts in the industry and/or gain information to help you refine your job search strategy?
I have several friends who are devs in and around the Denver area and I plan to really hone in on any and all advice or open doors they may be able to provide for me. This may be openings they hear about or meet up they know are being hosted, etc etc. I also have a friend who works as placement provider for tech companies in Denver and will be begining my carrer based rapport with them soon to start setting up the next steps in my job search. I also, may get on twitter as that seems to be a huge meca for devs to communicate and interact.
- Add to your vision that you wrote about above:
The type of work that has always spoken to me is that where I can be around and collaborate with my co-workers and also jobs in which I can help people. I've always had a love of interacting and learning from and about people. Being constantly challenged and being able to showcase and refine my creative brain is also a major part to what I consider worthwhile work. One last thing that I truly see as worthwhile work is that involving the music industry. Music brings people together in a way that is truly one of kind and touches upon everything I love; being with and interacting with people, helping so many find a community that they can feel like they can belond to, and constantly showcase innovation and creativity.
Again I have always valued connectivity between people, breaking down boundaries and bringing forth art and creativity.
I would say were they most match is being dedicated to your work and those around you. Striving to help people grow and be able to be ones true selve and allowing others, and myself, to express each of our individualities within the workplace and in life another parallel see between these two. In general how I view life is to have fun, be kind, create and help those around you do the same, and I try to bring this into my work view as well.
I have had a bit of jobs that would try and push things onto customers that they didn't want and or actually need and I never felt comfortable with this. I also would find myself clashing with my view on life and work is that of not being heard or able to express myself to the extent I felt necessary. I've also been in work settings that didn't see the value in having a connected workforce, in terms of socailly, and that also was a strain.
When I was growing up my mother would also say that she 'Lived to Work' and that my father 'Workedto Live' and I would say I would fall some place in between. When I feel passionate about the work or project I am (which is most ever project I've come across in Turing) that peeks my interest, challenges me, and gets my creative mind going, I can and will get after it with everything i've got. I'll get excited each day to jump back into and will let the work drive me to better myself and hopefully have the project better others in the end.
- Reflect on how you’ve spent your time in the previous 2 mods to gauge your engagement and energy:
The above statment more or less answers this question as well! The projects that truly did inspire me though were the ones I was able to come up with myself, such as my Mod 3 final assesment in which I was able to create an app that allowed people to find playlists based off of how they either felt or wanted to feel. Music has always been a driving force in my life so it was amazing getting to incorporate a bit of it into my project.
When I'm not challenged or feel like I'm not getting enough work to do. That and when I do get work it's more of just busy work that doesn't get me thinking or delve into my skill sets. Also if it's a subject I'm not inspired by (like law work or goverment based work) I tend to get off track and restless.
When I'm around others who love what they do while I'm also doing what I love to do. I love being inspired by those around me and being in a setting that I can branch off of my co-workers or the customers is something that has always energized me. Being able to be given a task with an end goal and working together with my team to complete it has and will always energize me.
When I'm not around other people and are given mundane/ easy tasks to complete. When there is no life in my enviornment, whether that be work or life in general.
- Setting up habits and routines to make time for the job search this module:
Block out time on your calendar this week to work on your job search. When will you make this happen? How will you hold yourself accountable to this?:
I have started my outreach to those I know in the Denver area with Dev jobs and have gotten some great adive and places to look into. I'm going to hold myself accountable but setting up at least two virtual coffee meetings with some of the contacts I have been given for this next weekend and Aim for another 3 per week for this next 2 week break between mods.
Understanding what I should and should not be doing with job searching as well as hopefully creating contacts that can further lead me to other job opportunities
I hope to have some more contacts and have a more refined plan of attack moving forward.
- Applying wayfinding to using job search resources
-
Go through the resources listed here in the Finding Job Opportunities section and explore 2-3 tools. List what you looked at here:
-
Apply wayfinding: of what you looked at, what did you discover that aligns with your vision? If it didn't align with your vision, what will you try next?
Find a job posting that aligns with your vision. What's the posting? How does it align with what you're looking for? Add it to your Huntr.:
One job posting I found was that for Beatport, which is based in Denver, and aims directly at the music industry. Their sense of community is wonderful and upon reading more it seems like a great place for junior devs, as it is more structured and easy to acclimate into
- Reflections:
One of the main things I need to focus on is in fact getting my CL and Resume down and then reviewed... I know I haven't updated nor kept up with my PD and I need to start making this a priority. I struggle to think/ let myself believe that I can even belong in this community (even though I do!) at times, and the PD portion has been a huge road block to overcome when it comes to these feelings.
- Build your resume
Maybe music, art, startups, non-profits, community work, collaboration?
- Upload your resume to CV Compiler by following these steps:
I need to structure my resume in a more eye catching way, I need to find which projects I would like to 'show off' and change a bit of my language around.
- Reflect on your schedule:
How effective were you in sticking to your schedule last week? What were your results? How can you adjust your schedule this week to make it more effective?:
I have not been doing well with sticking to a any sort of plan throughout this current Mod and no that this needs to change ASAP. Any and all advice on how to get more organized would be greatly appreciated!
- How will you continue to refine your resume? What next steps will you take to make your cover letter even stronger? When will you submit your application? I need to sit down and block/ hash out a begining cover letter that show cases who I am and what I can bring to the table that is a 'quick' read but also eye catching and meaningful.
Hey! I don't see any Mod 4 updates.
