It feels crazy to say, really. 5 years ago I released a small mod called Kyanite, and over the next half decade, I made friends (and a few enemies), helped create a mod that got over a million downloads, watched communities grow around me, discovered a love for programming, and helped out on one of the most popular mods out there (Quark). I'm beyond thankful for this community and what they have made, even if I have my problems with it occasionally.
Who knew that fateful November day that I would go in to mod dev like I have. If I may have a few words to reflect on the past 5 years.
I think my most important moment has to be split between the moment Consistency+ hit 10k downloads, joining my current main friend group, or joining the team on Quark. Though, Consistency+ I could probably save for when that hits 5 years in a few months. My friend group is a private one really, and Quark is also something I should save for a big anniversary soon.
Outside of those, it might just be helping out with MCPNP's update. That was one which was my first time even touching a mod's code. I don't credit it as my anniversary, but man that was definitely crazy to me.
My most fun moment would easily be "Mishaps, Accidents, and Whoopsie Daisies", I think about it to this day. I guess I really love being the center of attention! (heh) Combined with the fact that I find the whole concept really funny. One of these years I'll run it back. I have a magnum opus or two to make first though. ;)
I wanna thank a few people or groups who were especially impactful to me.
- Jay and Carter - I DEFINITELY would not be this much in to mod dev if I never met you two. Even if we don't do as much together as we did in the past, if you ever need me you know where to call.
- IMS - Thanks for testing Kyanite, its crazy that you went on to make Iris. I'm really proud to have you as a peer!
- Vazkii - I still can't believe that I am working on Quark. You are someone whos mods I always looked up to in the past, so working on one of them is still so crazy. Thank you a ton.
- SP - You know who you are, and you know why I would thank you.
- Blanketcon, Nucleoid, and Violet Moon - I'm so happy I got to contribute in some way to all of these groups. Blanketcon was super fun, Nucleoid's Opticord day was a blast to play, and Violet Moon is such a welcoming community.
This is a bit short, I'll probably respond on Bsky throughout the day with any additional thoughts. Cheers to another 5 more years I say.
