  • Start Menu doesn’t opened when clicked.
  • System tray icons (WiFi, sound, battery) disappear.
  • Random freezing of taskbar functions after login.

Possible Causes

  • Corrupted systems file after an update.
  • Windows Explorer process stuck.
  • Windows Shell encountered host issues.
  • Outdated or conflicting third-party software.

Fixes / Workarounds

1. Restart Windows Explorer

  1. Then Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  2. In the list of Windows Explorer, locate Windows Explorer.
  3. Right-click → Restart.

2. Use Command Prompt to Repair System Files

Run the following commands in Command Prompt (Admin):

sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

3. Delete Icon/Taskbar Cache

  1. Press Win + R, type:
    %localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

If the problem present, try creating a new local user account to rule out profile corruption.

Quick Fix Script (Batch File)

You can save the following code as restart_taskbar.bat and run it as Administrator.
