[[2025-05-26]] I worked on [[CPL Side QAP D Ring]].
- Solution Dyed Black
- 3.1 lbs @ 24L
- 2.9 lbs w/o frame
- CPL 24L V3; link
- Slightly too big as a personal item for United
- Maybe use the peak design camera adapter for a water bottle. Some inspiration albeit different and weird
- should I weld a screw adapter to one of my steel water bottles?
Looks great!
Really nice organization. With the exception of the lack of a water bottle pocket, there is a spot for everything, but also a very roomy main compartment.
The side access is very functional! I compare every other bag to this side access.
The materials feel very durable and satisfying to use.
The branding is very minimal and the patch is cool to play with.
No water bottle pocket is my biggest gripe with the backpack. I get that they are trying to keep a sleek look, but a slim pocket on the side opposite to the long carry handle would be perfect IMO.
The weight is also a bit annoying to deal with. In my opinion, the bag is a bit overbuilt. I would gladly lose a bit bulk on the zippers and from the laptop compartment. Might even prefer 500D nylon on the exterior than 1000D nylon, although I hear 500 catches dirt and cat hair. XPac might the solve here. I'll try to build the Porter Pony [[Backpack DIY]] to learn more about this external material constraint.
To deal with discomfort from the weight, I took out the back frame and that helped shave a quarter pound.
Not a great spot to put my keys. I might need to buy some sort of pen holder to keep the key ring in. Overall, some more d-rings would be nice; take a page out of Tom Bihn please.
The harness system is a bit disappointing. It's moderately comfortable with the sternum strap, but is clunky to stow when using briefcase mode. This can probably be solved by shimming in some fidlock hardware. Additionally, there are no webbing elastic keepers, which just feels cheap. The sternum strap is a bit annoying to take on and off, and is very floppy when I take on and off the bag. Lastly, I think the material used for the webbing should be more smooth, like the [[Peak Design Everyday 20L]] the [[Timbuk2 Custom Tuck]].
No luggage pass through. Can probably get away with using the long side handle, but I haven't traveled with rolling luggage yet with this pack.
The size feels slightly large for me for an everyday carry. I like to use it more as a small travel backpack. If they made the 16L less than 2lbs then it would be a nice complement to this bag.
This backpack is extremely versatile. It's fantastic for short trips (1 - 3 days) and ok as a EDC/work bag. It's done best for me when I've done minimal walking (car and train).
