hmmm. this isn't working for me. I'm getting an error when I run your test:
Error in panel_params$x$break_positions_minor() :
attempt to apply non-function
not sure how to fix....
@burchill, ggplot2_4.0 breaks this functionality, with
Error in geom_blank() (from file.R#117) : Problem while converting geom to grob.
ℹ Error occurred in the 1st layer.
Caused by error in `layout$panel_params[[data$PANEL[1]]]`:
! subscript out of boundsI think the issue is because ggplot2_4 changes how ggproto works, specifically CoordCartesian.
I'm trying to reverse-engineer your code to understand better how to translate into newer code, but I do not understand it (yet). Do you by chance have ideas how this per-facet clipping cartesian limits can be updated?

FYI, I troubleshot some stupid typos of my own and then found one in yours:
tribble::tribble-->tibble::tribble.Thanks, I do like that extension. (I incorporated it into my gist.)
