Guide on how to setup ASMedia 1166 Passthrough in Proxmox

Guide: Setting Up ASMedia 1166 on Proxmox

To flash the controller with the correct firmware, you must have access to a Windows machine.

⚠️ Do NOT use version 241224-0000-00!

With this version, starting the VM in Proxmox will hang indefinitely. The VM start command never completes, and you're forced to hard reset the Proxmox host. This is also the version reporting 32 SATA Devices instead of 6.

QEMU with VirtIO GPU Vulkan Support

QEMU with VirtIO GPU Vulkan Support

With its latest reales qemu added the Venus patches so that virtio-gpu now support venus encapsulation for vulkan. This is one more piece to the puzzle towards full Vulkan support.

An outdated blog post on clollabora described in 2021 how to enable 3D acceleration of Vulkan applications in QEMU through the Venus experimental Vulkan driver for VirtIO-GPU with a local development environment. Following up on the outdated write up, this is how its done today.

This file explains how to update the firmware of `Aquantia Corp. AQC107 NBase-T/IEEE 802.3bz Ethernet Controller` ethernet controller in Linux

Why

I've noticed RX packet drops on my PCI card (InDroppedDma was too high). I suspected that it was because of a firmware problem, so I decided to try to find a way to update it.

There was no official linux firmware updater, however I found an unofficial one published some time ago, which worked well when combined with the latest firmware.

Use at your own risk, however I didn't experience any problems.

TrueNAS UGREEN DXP4800 Plus Status LED Guide

UGREEN DXP4800 Plus TrueNAS Status LED Guide

20240609_035951642_iOS

The following is a quick guide on getting basic status LED functionality working with TrueNAS running on the UGREEN DXP4800 Plus. Theoretically, it should work on all models (with some small revisions to the script), but I only have a DXP4800 Plus. :)

This guide is for cron job that runs a script to update the LEDs every couple minutes, but I'm sure the following can be modified for blinky LEDs as well.

Orchestrate backups via borgbackup
#!/usr/bin/python3
# Usage: 'backup' alone will back the system up
# 'backup ARGS' will run borg with ARGS, configuring repository location, passphrase etc.
# e.g., 'backup list ::' will list backups in the repository
# Goals: run on RHEL 8's default Python interpreter (3.6) with no non-RHEL packages required
# Non-goals: backing up multiple filesystems, any configurability save modifying values set
# in code.

my proxmox cluster

ProxMox Cluster - Soup-to-Nutz

aka what i did to get from nothing to done.

note: these are designed to be primarily a re-install guide for myself (writing things down helps me memorize the knowledge), as such don't take any of this on blind faith - some areas are well tested and the docs are very robust, some items, less so). YMMV

Compiling Realtek 8152, 8156 and 8157 ( RTL8152 ) drivers for QNAP NAS

Compiling Realtek RTL 8152, 8156 and 8157 drivers for QNAP NAS

Note

This guide was last updated on 17th Feb 2025

Many QNAP NAS devices only come with 1Gbe network interfaces. These devices can easily benefit from a simple network upgrade by connecting the ubiquitious 2.5Gbe USB NICs from Realtek. Unfortunately, some of the older QNAP NAS systems do not support the newer r8156 based 2.5Gbe NICs or r8157 based 5Gbe NICs as they run an older 4.x linux kernel and the r8152 source files included with the older linux kernel are based off an older codebase that predates the 8156/8157 series.

With some elbow grease however, we can build support for the 2.5 & 5 Gbe adapters and easily upgrade functionality.

XPON SFP ONU (V2801F), XPON STICK ONU (TWCGPON657), RTL8672, RTL9601C1

Clearing Up

  • Original author have abandoned DFP-34G-2C2 (ZTE) and moved to Realtek
  • Take not that V2801F using Realtek SoC RTL9601C1, not RTL8672
  • RTL8672 is ADSL Modem, /proc/cpuinfo reported wrong.
  • RTL9601C1 consider stable, active development and large user base
