Slack Shortcuts and Features (10 min)

Use Google to go find at least one online resource detailing keyboard shortcuts and/or features that are built into Slack.

  • What resource(s) did you find? Paste them below:
  1. https://www.guidingtech.com/37388/top-slack-shortcuts/
  2. Pressing [command + ?] brings up the slack shortcut menu for quick access to all Slack shortcuts.
  • What are three Slack shortcuts and/or features that will contribute to your productivity?
  1. [command + K] will bring up a spotlight-ish type of searcher in Slack where you can find users, files, messages, etc.
  2. If we ever misspell something a message or post in Slack, we can click [up arrow] and we will be able to edit the message.
  3. [Command + Shift + Y] is used to set a status in Slack, so if I'm busy or available to chat then I can easily change my status that way.

The idea of the staging area is frequently one of the trickiest concepts to wrap your head around when you're first learning git. Read the question and answers (or do your own Googling on the git staging area). Then, create your own metaphor comparing the staging area to something in real life.

  • Type your metaphor below:

I have a very easy to understand metaphor for git staging: You have a box and in this box you can add stuff (untracked files) to it. We start adding individual kitchen items into the box (staging). When we think we have gathered all the items required, then we seal the box, label it "kitchen items" and send it out(commit). If we decide to open the box again to add (modify) or remove (untracked) items then we will need to stage those changes again.
