How to fix Asus Dialpad (touchpad)

brief summary of my process for fixing an unresponsive Asus Dialpad (tldr reinstall driver)

  1. Inside BIOS, disable touchpad under internal pointer device
  2. In windows' Device Manager, select view -> "drivers by type" and "show hidden devices"
  3. Under human interface devices, uninstall all instances of asusdialpadfilter.inf
  4. In the same section, right click on hidi2c.inf and install it
    1. If it says it can’t install because a better driver exists, restart computer. Sometimes it hasn't updated yet and still thinks asusdialpadfilter.inf exists
    2. If still doesn't work, run Driver Store Explorer (aka RAPR from https://github.com/lostindark/DriverStoreExplorer) and uninstall all asusdialpadfilter.inf under human interface devices, then restart
  5. If mtconfig.inf is missing, open cmd as admin and enter sc config MTConfig start=demand
  6. Install asusdialpadfilter.inf driver and restart
    1. Boot to bios and re-enable the touchpad from the settings in step 1

after rebooting into windows again, it worked on my machine (TM)
