Using rem units in CSS

One pattern I've noticed lately is using rem as a unit of distance in CSS. This seems like a pretty good idea.

Edit (September 2020):

Docker for Desktop can run on WSL 2 without any Virtual machine!
WSL 2 is now available for stable Windows 10 (not just Insiders) via the (stable) Windows 10 May 2020 Update.
WSL 2 is available for Windows Home editions, too, you don't need a Pro license!
Docker for Desktop with WSL 2 eliminates many issues inherent to running a Linux VM and using shares into that VM.
WSL 2 supports *nix permissions on Windows file systems mounted into WSL 2 (Postgres container mounts come into mind).

Basic Steps

Clarify and agree on the scope of the system

User cases (description of sequences of events that, taken together, lead to a system doing something useful)
- Who is going to use it?
- How are they going to use it?

In the below keyboard shortcuts, I use the capital letters for reading clarity but this does not imply shift, if shift is needed, I will say shift. So ⌘ + D does not mean hold shift. ⌘ + Shift + D does of course.

Tabs and Windows

Function	Shortcut
New Tab	`⌘` + `T`
Close Tab or Window	`⌘` + `W` (same as many mac apps)
Go to Tab	`⌘` + `Number Key` (ie: `⌘2` is 2nd tab)
Go to Split Pane by Direction	`⌘` + `Option` + `Arrow Key`

Install va homebrew

If you don't have homebrew installed - get homebrew here

Then run: brew install elasticsearch

Configuration

Update the elasticsearch configuration file in /usr/local/etc/elasticsearch/elasticsearch.yml.

To remove a submodule you need to:

Delete the relevant section from the .gitmodules file.
Stage the .gitmodules changes git add .gitmodules
Delete the relevant section from .git/config.
Run git rm --cached path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
Run rm -rf .git/modules/path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
Commit git commit -m "Removed submodule "
Delete the now untracked submodule files rm -rf path_to_submodule

#Transform web.config on build

Unload the project
Edit .csproj
Append figure 1 to the end of the file just before </Project>; v12.0 my change depending on your version of Visual Studio
Save .csproj and reload
Open configuration manager
Add a new Configuration Name: Base. Copy settings from: Release
Copy the contents of your web.config
Right click Web.Config > Add Config Transformation
