  1. Why do you want mentoring in the job search?

    Job searching is quite a daunting process. I actually have never gone through a job search process on my own before, for any job. I would appreciate additional tips and guidance specifically in the areas of interviewing and cold/warm outreach to a contact at a company that I want to work at. As an introvert, I know that I will need additional practice in these two areas to become effective in them. I hope that this mentorship will help me to be more comfortable with the job search process once I graduate from Turing.

  2. How will you hold yourself accountable to balancing time for your job search and following your mentor and group's advice?

    I will keep notes from each meeting so that I can review them during my scheduled job search allotments on my calendar. Before each job search session that I schedule for myself, I will address the advice from my mentor and group first before moving onto my regular process for applying for jobs. I will also follow the calendar that I created above in order to fit in time for job applications. Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I will set a realistic goal of completing one job application per week so that I can at least practice going through the job application process and implement the advice from my mentor.

  3. What is the focus of your job search (timeline, ideal job, steps you’ve already taken)? Be as specific as you can.

    My goal is to apply for a job once every week. I have already been in contact with a Turing alumni at Segment; I am setting up a coffee meeting with him to get more information regarding job openings at his company. This step of warm outreach is the first part of my job application process. The next is making a cover letter, and the final step is completing the application. I have also completed a rough draft of a cover letter and will finish it this week for submission.

    Essentially, my goal is to complete one outreach, one cover letter, and one job application each week. I would also like to fit in a job fair/tech meetup whenever possible. For example, I am attending the Built-In Colorado Fair on December 11.
