I have ported it to c# for anyone interested... https://gist.github.com/tomhawkin/79bdb4757bac0376415d0f68d24def6c

In case it's interesting to others, I ported the script to JavaScript so that it can run locally in the browser :)

Could somebody port it to Golang?

Thanks for sharing! Tried my hand at translating this to rust and better understand the code. For anyone interested: https://github.com/Miles123K/microgpt-rs/tree/main

Thank you Andrej, I am already experimenting with this cause I have always wanted to make an LLM that is ok to run on edge devices, we're getting there.

this is wonderful, thanks! It helps me a lot understanding parts that were kind of obscure until now. For learning reasons, I spent the day writing a common lisp implementation. If someone want to take a look, it's here: https://github.com/gicrisf/microgpt-lisp

@melroy89 Here's a Go port: https://github.com/joelsearcy/microgpt-go

I won't claim to understand more than a fraction of it (yet)... but you're welcome to compare it to the other ports.

thanks, Andrej! microgpt is genuinely inspiring. clean, minimal and it reminded me how far you can go with “just Python and patience".

so i write molecule. i kept the no-deps purity and pushed it toward a GPT-3/4-inspired vibe: RoPE, SwiGLU-ish gating, top-k/top-p + min_p + typical_p and a slightly more coherent generation loop.

molecule is single-file, stdlib-only: async continual training, SQLite memory, evolving BPE that only expands vocab and append-only delta modules (no overwriting).
