BeatSaver Pitch

Hi there,

first of all, I am a huge fan of BeatSaver ๐Ÿ˜Œ Thank you for what you're doing for the Community!

Second, I am a developer on the project named Beat Labs which is a free and open sandbox for fiddling with different gameplay mechanics and ideas for rhythm games in VR. It currently focuses on replicating mechanics of Beat Saber, but not a 1-1 rip-off, just the minimum so that it's playable. Once this is done I want to start experimenting with various modifications to the gameplay and introducing new mechanics.

What I put at the center of Beat Labs is the Community. This is where BeatSaver comes into play. I'm using your APIs so that the players can browse and search for songs and playlists. Btw. I'm an avid player of Beat Labs myself so I'm creating it in a way that it's fun to me and that it can be shared with the Community.

Now, when the project has gained a bit of traction, I wanted to reach out to you (BeatSaver creators and maintainers) so that I am fair to you. In the Terms of Service there's nothing per se saying about who and how can use BeatSaver APIs but I wanted to check if you're really OK with me using them in Beat Labs. That's one thing.

Another is whether you'd consider collaboration between us, different forms of which I can imagine. For starters - would you be OK if I used BeatSaver name and logo within the game and promotional materials (eg. a description on the SideQuest listing). You know, something like "Powered by BeatSaver", etc. Of course linking back to you and giving credit where credit is due (to both BeatSaver and the mappers).

Another example could be providing Beat Labs as a tool for mappers for quick playtesting.

Or just offering it to all interested Beat Saber players who don't care about all the bells and whistles - lasers, gfx, and stuff (like myself) and just want to have fun with custom songs in a manner that is as convenient as possible.

I see a great potential in the huge database of custom maps that the members of the Community have been creating, their ingenuity, making Beat Saber something much more than its creators initially envisioned. In a project like Beat Labs we could tap into this potential, like use existing maps to drive gameplay that is nothing like Beat Saber. And going even further - to escape the constraints of the original game, expand on its mechanics and map format, so that the mappers have new ways to express themselves and the players, awed by them, can have even more fun ๐Ÿ˜€
