Navigate to /Library/LaunchAgents/.
Edit com.razer.rzupdater.plist.
Change <false/> in onDemand to <true/>.

This will disable the menu bar item, and the startup of the Synapse app while still loading the engine!

do you happen to know how to remove the icon after uninstalling? for some reason, a greyed out razer synapse icon still appears in my menu bar and I can't seem to remove it. gracias!

This doesn't seem to apply anymore - just installed Razer Synapse on Sierra, and there's no com.razer anything in the LaunchAgents folder.
