Zelda No-Hit/No-Damage

Created by MajinPhil with inspiration from No-Hit/No-Damage souls runs, the Zelda No-Hit/Damage challenge aims to provide a fun and challenging experience for players of all skill levels. Rules for individual games are created with assistance from the Zelda No-Hit/Damage Community.

Base Category Rules

The base rules apply to all games for their respective category.

No-Hit Rules

No-Hit aims to be the hardest ruleset of this challenge.

Jump to: Ocarina of Time (Randomizer), Majora's Mask (Randomizer), Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, Skyward Sword

Rule Explanation
No Damage Anything that loses health is considered a hit, which includes but is not limited to:
  • Getting hit by enemies
  • Environmental Damage (Poision water, Lava, Ice, Fire, etc.)
  • Fall Damage
  • Contact Damage
No Damageless Hits Getting hit even if it doesn't lose health counts as a hit.
Bonk! Bonking does not count as a hit.
Shielding Shielding projectiles or attacks is NOT permitted.
Glitches All glitches are banned although unintended sequence breaks/shortcuts are acceptable, such as:
  • Lily Pad jump to Song of Soaring in Majora's Mask
  • Deku Tree B1 Skip in Ocarina of Time
Required Actions Shielding, taking damage or contact hits in which are required in order to progress the game are permitted, such as:
  • 2, 3, 1 Scrubs before Gohma
  • Scrub protecting Scrub code
  • Scripted cutscenes
Projectiles that need to be shielded for these reasons do NOT count as a hit regardless of whether or not they hit the target.
Save & Quit Saving and quitting in the middle of a run is only permitted if you do so at a place where it spawns you again when you restart the game.
For Example:
  • In Ocarina of Time, you can only save and quit at the start of a dungeon, Temple of Time as adult Link, or Kokiri Forest as child Link.
  • In Majora's Mask, saving and quitting is permitted after playing Song of Time, or saving at an owl statue.
Voiding Voiding of any kind is not permitted and counts as a hit.
Miss! Failing any mini-game does NOT count as a hit.
Emulation Playing on emulators is permitted.
  • Save states are NOT permitted.
    • Except for the purposes of a backup save in the event of a legitimate game or emulator crash.
  • Speed up is permitted.

No-Damage Rules

No-Damage, while still challenging, offers a ligher rule set that is great for starting out.

Rule Explanation
No Damage Anything that loses health is considered a hit, including but not limited to:

Damageless Hits Getting hit and not taking any damage does NOT count as a hit.

Ocarina of Time

OOT General

Rule Explanation
Additional Versions Master Quest, 3DS and Ship of Harkinian versions are also permitted.
Required Actions The following actions are required to progress and are therefore permitted:
  • Shielding the Deku Scrub before Slingshot.
  • Shielding 2, 3, 1 Deku Scrubs.
  • Using Mirror Shield on Twinrova.
Warping Warping to safety using either warp songs or Farore's Wind is permitted.
Power Crouch Stab Power Crouch Stabbing is NOT permitted.
Cutscene Hits Getting hit (red damage effect) while not having control of Link (cutscenes, hookshoot, etc) does NOT count as a hit.
Nayru's Love Hits taken while Nayru's Love is activated are NOT permitted even though no damage is taken. However, Nayru's Love is permitted when used to move through blade traps.
Failed Songs Playing songs incorrectly does not count as a hit.

OOT No-Hit

Rule Explanation
Business Scrubs Shielding Business Scrubs is NOT permitted as there are other alternative methods to activate them (Deku Nut, Megaton Hammer, etc.).
Wall Masters Getting grabbed by Wall Masters counts as a hit.
Gibdo/ReDead Getting grabbed by a Gibdo or ReDead counts as a hit regardless of whether you take damage or not.
Dead Hand Getting grabbed by Dead Hand counts as a hit as there are alternative ways to spawn him (bombs).
I-Frames Getting hit while having invincibility frames during a roll counts as a hit since you do not rebound off the attack. However, using rolls to go through blade traps is permitted.
Caught Getting caught by Hyrule Castle Guards or Gerudo Fortress Guards count as a hit.

OOT Randomizer

Rule Explanation

Settings File Settings file with ALL SoH Settings and Randomizer Settings can be found from the #Resources channel on the Discord Server. Apply settings by dragging and dropping the JSON file onto SoH while open.
Custom SoH Settings The following is not a full comprehensive list of the settings used but a list of the custom settings offered for No Hit, only available in CraftyBoss' build. Enhancements:

Majora's Mask

MM General

Rule Explanation
Additional Versions 3DS, 2 Ship 2 Harkinian and Zelda64Recomp are also permitted, except when doing Majora's Mask No-Hit/Damage Randomizer.
Goron Spikes Defeating enemies using the goron spike roll or rolling through snowballs is permitted as long as you maintain the roll.
Majora's Incarnation Phase Bombing the center of the arena to score a knockdown during the Majora's Incarnation battle is banned and considered a glitch.
Mjölk Having the Gorman Brothers hit a milk jug during the Cremia Quest does NOT count as a hit since it doesn’t directly hit Link.
Warping Warping to safety using either Song of Time or Song of Soaring is permitted.
Power Crouch Stab Power Crouch Stabbing is NOT permitted.
Failed Songs Playing songs incorrectly does not count as a hit.

MM No-Hit

Rule Explanation
Goron Race Goron Race is realistically not possible to be completed without bonking the other gorons. As a result, colliding with a goron during the race while in a spike roll will NOT count as a hit and is permitted. However, colliding with another goron during the race without spikes, counts as a hit.
Caught Getting caught by a Deku Guard or Pirate Guard counts as a hit.
Sharp Taking Damage from Sharp in Ikana Canyon counts as a hit.
Epona While riding Epona, touching any enemy counts as a hit.
Hexed Touching a Blue Bubble and getting hexed counts as a hit.
Bad Dog Getting hit by a dog as Deku Link counts as a hit.
Gibdo/ReDead Getting frozen by a Gibdo / ReDead does NOT count as a hit as long as you escape in time.

MM No-Damage

Rule Explanation
Epona All instances of running into an enemy with Epona and defeating it does not count as a hit, as long as no damage is taken.

MM Randomizer

Enemizer Enemies must be randomized. Use Isghj's Enemizer release (NOT ACTORIZER).

The Wind Waker

TWW General

Rule Explanation
Additional Versions Both SD and HD versions of the game are acceptable.
Light Arrow Miss Light Arrow deflection missing to hit Ganondorf does NOT count as a hit.
Required Actions Makar gets force grabbed by a Floormaster in the Wind Temple, it is part of progressing through the dungeon and it does NOT count as a hit.
Poes Poes controlling Link is permitted.
Cyclos Getting caught by Cyclos' tornado does not count as a hit.
Big Octo Getting Swalled and launched by a Big Octo does not account as a hit.
ReDead Getting frozen by a ReDead does not count as a hit.
Morth Morth touching Link is permitted.
Magic Armor Magic Armor is not permitted.
Purple Mist Going through purple mist does not count as a hit.

TWW No-Hit

Rule Explanation
Caught Being caught by Mobiles or the spotlights in Forsaken Fortress is not permitted.
Controlling While controlling Medli, Makar or a Seagull any hit they take is not permitted.
Floormaster Link being grabbed by a Floormaster is not permitted
Voiding Voiding out and/or drowning counts as a hit, including when you crawl onto the wooden planks where a Rats void you out.
ReDead Getting grabbed by a ReDead counts as a hit.

Twilight Princess

TP General

Rule Explanation
Additional Versions Both SD and HD versions of the game are acceptable.
Ooccoo Using Ooccoo to get out of a dungeon and entering back to the entrance of the same dungeon IS permitted.
Ghoul Rat The Ghoul Rat touching Link IS permitted.
ReDead/Shadow Beast Getting frozen by either a ReDead or Shadow Beast does not count as a hit.
Poe 1 Skip Poe 1 skip in Arbiter's Grounds is banned.
Long Jump Attack Use of LJA with Boomerang is banned, enemy LJA's are permitted.

TP No-Hit

Rule Explanation
Shield Attack Shield Attack is considered a parry and IS permitted.
Ball and Chain Using the Ball and Chain to block damage is NOT permitted.
Sumo Losing Sumo against Bo or Cor Goron counts as a hit, but getting slapped or grabbed do NOT count.
Prince Zora While escorting Prince Zora, the wagon catching fire is permitted. But letting the wagon burn and result in a Game Over does count as a hit.
Lost Getting lost in the Snowpeak blizzard and North Faron mist counts as a hit.
BONK!
  • Bonking during Snowboarding counts as a hit.
  • Bonking with Kargarok counts as a hit. It does NOT count as a hit during Plumm Minigame.
  • Bonking with Bullbo counts as a hit.
  • Bonking into the barriers while fighting Shadow Beasts does NOT count as a hit.
Hot! Touching a geyser in Death Mountain and Lakebed Temple counts as a hit.
Forced Transformation Forced transformation by dark mist in the Palace of Twilight does NOT count as a hit.
Caught Getting caught in Telma's bar when trying to sneak through counts as a hit.
Epona Failing to tame Epona counts as a hit.

Skyward Sword

SS General

Rule Explanation
Additional Versions Both SD and HD versions of the game are acceptable.
Parrying Perfect parry with a shield is allowed, but blocking is NOT.
Amiibo Using Amiibo is NOT permitted in the HD version.
Eldin Volcano Burning inside the Eldin Volcano is NOT permitted.
Loftwing Taking any hit or damage on Loftwing is NOT permitted.
BONK!
  • Bonking with Loftwing is permitted.
  • Bonking with the boat in the Lanayru Desert IS permitted.
Beetle Beetle bonking or being shot by enemies is permitted.
Brake Slide Use of brake slide is NOT permitted.
Imprisoned The quick kills for Imprisoned fights are allowed since they are not considered as glitches.
Harp Cancel Harp cancels are allowed since they only skip a cutscene and don't skip any actual gameplay.
Cranioc Spinning into a Cranioc when it's orange and charging you DOES count as a hit, since it still staggers you. You can get the Cranion to hit something after the charge and stun itself then allowing you to kill it without getting hit yourself.

SS No-Hit

Rule Explanation
Tornado Getting caught by a tornado while flying Loftwing counts as a hit.
Voiding Voiding out is not permitted. Failing to call Loftwing and being saved by an NPC is also not permitted.
Quicksand Drowning in quicksand counts as a hit.
Knocked Getting knocked down by a log or punching bag counts as a hit.
Touching a Burr is not a hit, as long as they don't damage you.
I-Frames Using invincibility frames from backflips to prevent taking a hit IS permitted since no hit sound occurs.
Caught In Silent Realms, getting caught by a watcher or stepping in waking water is not a hit.
Egged Getting hit by an egg during the Wing Ceremony at the start of the game counts as a hit.
Walltula Getting grabbed by a walltula counts as a hit as they drain your stamina.
Aracha Getting touched by Aracha in any form is a hit.
ChuChus Touching ChuChus counts as a hit.
Ghirahim Ghirahim grabbing your sword in any fight IS permitted.
Ancient Cistern While climbing rope in Ancient Cistern you encounter Cursed Bokoblins, letting them grab you IS permitted as you're expected to keep climbing even if they grab you. But if you want to, you can kill them and safely climb up without letting them grab you.
