Why Wayland suck ?

Note : This gist will be way less moderated than the orginal gist by probonopd until there is spam, leak of personal info or anything really bad. Diversity of opinion is allowed. And I am still new to Linux.

Problems of Wayland IMO :

  • The wayland dev mentality of your software being broken instead of Wayland fixing their software.
  • Left wing political BS
  • Political Code of Conduct
  • Wayland break a lot of apps
  • The Wayland security model is too opiniated and too strict which break too much software.
  • Wayland being forced on people
  • The lack of standard implementation : it is only a protocol, each de or compositor have their own implementation
  • Some Wayland compositor like Hyprland have a performance issue on Virtual Machine
  • GDM which is required by GNOME and who use Wayland can take for ever to load up and require systemd
  • Reliance on Red Hat tech like pipewire and systemd
  • Made for Linux primarly which defeat the purpose of POISX and UNIX
  • No full Desktop X11-like Forwarding
  • The forced used of Portal which make Wayland annoying to use and feel like i am using a lockdown phone instead of a computer
  • Maybe a lot of other technical detail I don't know since I am still new to Linux ...

Why XLibre

  • apolitical (not woke)
  • updated codebase
  • new feature
  • not stopped by any Big Tech or organisation or group
  • no weaponised code of conduct or term of service
  • no discriminotary DEI
  • All the benefit and function of X11
  • Work for all DE or WM that support xorg (but may not have official support)
  • Better Nvidia support
  • Easily installed on a lot of distro with package by XLibre themself see Packaging for Distributions #404

Why not XLibre

  • still using old X Server technology
  • some distrubtion may be against or not support XLibre which might make the installation harder for new user
  • still quite recent so might not be as stable as X11
  • x11 issue might need some workaround or patch which could break at any time or not be as viable
  • still contains most of x11 disadvantages
  • X Window Manager are often less Eye Candy than Wayland Compositors like Hyprland

Consideration

  • no native HDR support
  • trackpad support still less great than wayland

no, i just try to read it but it was tooo hard of a far left language with buzzword like "fascist" everywhere i had to stop, because i could not stand that language and name-calling/labeling espcially of a corporation and people, and btw there are lgbtq++ clippy out there , i dont think the real nazi will support that ...

and last time, if you keep leaking my name i will block you
