The "Clippy movement" is where you change your profile picture to Clippit from Microsoft Office. This is because corporations are removing consumer rights.
The person who started this, Louis Rossmann, seems to support consumer rights. But he supports a corporation, known as FUTO, that says "Computers should belong to you, the people."
FUTO funds "open source" organizations. They also build their own apps, but they use a Source Available license.
They claim that they want to give users control, but they don't even support the 4 Essential Freedoms of Software. They doubled down on this with their Source-First statement. Source First is basically their way of saying "Source Available" but they claim it's not the same because there "isn't as much restrictions".
Their philosophy (they even admit that they add "restrictions") is so bad it doesn't even follow the OSI's "open source" definition.
So obviously they don't care about getting away from Proprietary Software, which is what you should do.
Here's a list of proprietary software which can be replaced with free software.
| Proprietary | Free |
|---|---|
| GitHub | Codeberg |
| YouTube | PeerTube |
| iOS | Replicant |
| OSX | GNU/Linux |
| FUTO Keyboard | Fossify Keyboard |
| GrayJay | LibreTube |
Will update this over time!
So beautiful. Sadly, all this beauty serves zero purpose
