lightning talk

In my opinion this is hands down the most exciting and impactful technology on the horizon.

traffic stats.. accidents, deaths, driver error.. increase in accidents and increase in distraction

the current state of driverless cars - uber in pittsburgh and san fransisco, tesla Every major automanufacturer is investing heavily autonomous driving.

Waymo is Alphabet/Google's driverless car division.. They have driven 2mil miles.

tragedy of the commons

Let's say tech executives (consciously or subconsciously) seek teams in which at least 1/3 of team members are like them (gender, age, race). How will this impact the types of jobs available?.

  • If only 1/3 of the people in the team are like them, then I think ultimately it will lead to a really diverse team. This should mean that 2/3 of the team isn't like them, which means diversity. So I am not sure if I see a negative in this scenario.

Diversity "quotas" are sometimes dismissed as counter-productive or missing the point of actually valuing diversity. PotP does demonstrate how they may add some value. What are your attitudes toward diversity quotas; does this game change your assumptions?

  • PotP basically is saying that a big mixture is good. You don't want to bring in just ONE person who is diverse to the group.

Title

The (Not-So) Subtle Art of Not Giving a #@!%

Description

Release yourself from the prison of meaninglessness and gain full control of your life! You took the first step by coming to Turing, now let's keep the train moving.

Feedback III Reflection

What are you doing well as a pair programmer and collaborator?

  • I am seeing my strengths and weaknesses and working on them during each of my group projects. I try to see things from my partner's eyes. I don't narrow in and think everything needs to be done my way.

How do you use your strengths as a team member?

  • I am adaptable and flexible. This make sures my team feels valued and that their ideas and strengths are used just as much as I mine.

Feedback 2 Reflection

Date of feedback conversation:

8/24/17

How did you prepare for the conversation?

I thought of all the constructive criticisms I could provide.

Agile Reflection

Jeff came and talked to our class about agile development. First he talked about how waterfall was the traditional method of development and then he talked about how Agile came to be. This was cool because I have no idea how the software business works. Funny thing is though, Agile is super similar to a delivery method in construction called Design-Build. Basically it all the same type of things in Agile, and just like Agile it is very based on the Toyota Lean philosophy. Overall this was a pretty cool session. It is good to learn about these things, especially because we won't being doing internships where usually you get to learn these types of things before you actually start full time.
